Photos de New-York

La région était habitée par les Amérindiens Lenapes quand elle a été découverte en 1524 par Giovanni da Verrazzano, un explorateur florentin au service de la couronne française. Il la nomma 'Nouvelle Angoulême'. En 1614, les Hollandais fondèrent une colonie de commerce des fourrures sur la pointe sud de Manhattan, plus tard appelée 'Nieuw Amsterdam'. La ville a pris son nom définitif lorsque les Anglais l'ont capturée en 1664.
