Photos from Lancashire, the Red Rose CountyThe county takes its name from the city of Lancaster and was established in 1182. Although Lancaster is still considered to be the county town, the County Council is based in Preston. During the industrial revolution, many towns were heavily involved in cotton processing. Several canals and waterways that were used to transport goods now offer a pleasant way of exploring the county. In the west and south are the agricultural coastal plains. To the east are lovely upland areas leading to the Pennines. | ||
