Photos de Dublin

Dublin est officiellement connue en irlandais sous le nom Baile Átha Cliath (la ville du gué des haies de roseaux), du nom du village celtique d'avant les Vikings. Le nom anglais de Dublin vient de l'irlandais Dubh Linn (étang noir) : un lac qui n'existe plus, qui était relié à la Liffey, servait en effet aux Vikings pour amarrer leurs bateaux. Après l'invasion de l'Irlande par les Anglo-Normands (1170/1171), Dublin a remplacé la colline de Tara comme capitale de l'Irlande, le pouvoir s'installant au château de Dublin jusqu'à l'indépendance.
