Photos from AndaluciaThe name Andalucia comes from Al-Andalus (in Arabic: الأندلس), the Arabic name given to a nation in the parts of the Iberian Peninsula governed by Muslims in the period between 711 and 1492. For large parts of its history, al-Andalus was one of the leading cultural and economic centres in both the Mediterranean and the Islamic world. Today, the wonderful architectural heritage from that time, as well as the natural beauty of its mountains and beaches make this region a major tourist destination. |
