Une explication pour le nom du pays est le mot turc pour 'quarante', en référence aux quarante clans régionaux unis par Manas, un héros légendaire. Les photos ci-dessous donnent un aperçu du mode de vie traditionnel dans les hautes vallées, où les gens vivent dans des yourtes pendant que le bétail erre dans les vastes pâturages (les jailoos). |
