Photos from ScotlandThe Kingdom of Scotland was an independent sovereign state before 1707. Its name comes from the Latin 'Scoti', the term applied to Gaels, people from what is now Scotland and Ireland. The whole of Scotland was covered by ice sheets during the Pleistocene ice ages and today's mountains, valleys, fjords and lakes bear the mark of this glacial past. The many islands of the west coast provide endless photo opportunities to the visitor. |
