El nombre completo en árabe al-Mamlaka al-Maġribiyya (المملكة المغربية) se traduce en 'El Reino del Oeste'. El nombre 'Marruecos' proviene de la antigua capital almorávide y almohade, Marrakech, que en lengua amazigh bereber significa 'Tierra de Dios'.
