Photos de Galway

La ville est nommée d'après la rivière Gaillimh, qui signifie pierreux comme dans 'rivière caillouteuse'. Aujourd'hui, la rivière est communément appelée la rivière Corrib, après Lough Corrib, juste au nord. La ville date de 1124 lorsque le 'Dún na Bhun Gaillimhe' (fort à l'embouchure de la Gaillimh) a été construit par le roi de Connacht. Aujourd'hui, elle est considérée comme la ville la plus agréable d'Irlande grâce au charme de ses vieilles rues, son excellente ambiance et sa situation proche des beaux coins de la côte ouest (Connemara et comté de Clare).
