Die Mongolei ist ein riesiges Land, das vor allem durch Steppe, deren Trockenheit zunimmt, in Richtung der Wüste Gobi im Süden, bedeckt ist. Die vorherrschende Religion ist der tibetische Buddhismus, und viele schöne Klöster existieren noch trotz der Zerstörungen während der kommunistischen Ära. Die Mongolen sind traditionell nomadisch oder halb-nomadisch, bewegt sich mit ihren Herden je nach Saison und leben in Jurten. Ihre Gastfreundschaft verlassen einen unauslöschlichen Eindruck auf ausländische Besucher.
