La Mongolie est pays immense, essentiellement couvert de steppes dont l'aridité croît en allant vers le désert de Gobi au sud. La religion principale est le bouddhisme tibétain, et de très beaux monastères existent toujours malgré les destructions lors de l'ère communiste. Les mongols sont traditionnellement nomades ou semi-nomades, se déplaçant avec leurs troupeaux selon la saison et vivent dans des yourtes. Leur hospitalité laissera un souvenir indélébile au visiteur étranger.
