Bilder von ConnemaraDer Name Conamara stammt von den Conmhaicne (Nachkommen von Conmhac), einer frühzeitlichen Stammesgruppe, die Seitenlinien in verschiedenen Teilen von Connacht hatte. Eine Seitenlinie des Stammes waren die Conmhaicne Mara ('des Meeres'). Die Conmhaicne sind nach Conmhac ('Sohn des Hundes') benannt, der nach der Mythologie, der Sohn einer Königin von Connacht war. Die Küste von Connemara ist eine Sammlung von mehreren Halbinseln, vielen Inseln und Fjorden und natürlichen Häfen. In das Hinterland sind die Twelve Bens Berge. |
